CRM consulting for sustainable and ethical companies

Why I want to become a freelance CRM consultant for sustainable companies

The world is changing – and in terms of climate change not for the good. My interest into that topic basically started after I watched Cowspiracy. I slowly changed my habits regarding food, but realized I have to step up and become active in other fields in order to lower my carbon and energy footprint even further. I got to know companies like Veganz, Tomorrow, Eaternity, Armed Angels and Ecosia (just to name a few) and supported them by buying their products or using their services. The next logical step for me to have more impact was to start working for a sustainable, purpose-driven company that wants to make the world a greener place. Since I want to help as many companies as possible that prefer the cause over profit, I decided to become a freelance CRM consultant.

Where I am right now and where I want to get

Working as a freelance marketing automation specialist comes with challenges – working as a freelancer for ethical companies comes with some more. I believe that you only can convince people to become your clients when you truly, in the inner core, believe in what you do, act like it and show to the outside world. Therefore, it is obvious to me that I have to lower my carbon footprint on a professional and personal basis as far as possible. This can not be done overnight, so transparency is key to show what I am doing and what I am planning to do in order to achieve this goal.

Goals I was able to achieve so far

Eating on a plant-based diet

With the beginning of the year 2021 I was once again starting to eat exclusively plant-based food with the help of Veganuary. This time I want to stick to this habit throughout the year.

Icon No Plastic

Using less plastic

I am trying to buy and use as little plastic as possible. This includes using my own tupperware when doing grocery shopping and ordering less from delivery services.

Icon No Plane

Using a plane as less as possible

Instead I am trying to use long distance busses. That, to be honest, is not always possible regarding the time factor, but I traveled the southern part of Colombia only by bus.

Icon No Consumption

Working towards Minimalism

I am analysing if I really need something before I buy it. Additionally, I am trying to not throw away things without use to me, but to give it away or upcycle it.

Sustainability

Buying sustainable and/or ethical products only

This was easier when I lived in Europe. Here in Colombia you have to decide if flying in products from the US is better or worse than buying non-sustainable products. I am trying to evaluate this before every purchase.

Goals I want to achieve

Sustainability

Working exclusively for sustainable, ethical or purpose-driven companies

It will be a long way, but the big goal is to dedicate 100% of my time to these kinds of businesses. I am trying to achieve these goals by 2022.

No Carbon Footprint

Neutralizing my carbon footprint by donating

My estimation is that after I reduce my carbon footprint there will be situations or things that are essentiel, but can not be neutralized by not using them. In this case I want to donate to organisations that are dedicated to neutralize footprints by e.g. planting trees.

No Carbon Footprint

Become carbon-neutral with the tools I use

On a professional basis I want to neutralize my footprint as well. This will become a bigger challenge. I will have to analyze every tool I use, including web hosting, time tracking tools, services provided by Google etc. Right now I am using Ecosia to search the web. At least a small start towards carbon-neutrality.

Services I am offering to purpose-driven companies

Based on my work experience I want to offer three different services as freelance marketing automation specialist with which I want to help my clients to acquire and retain customers in order to thrive:

Automation Consultancy

Campaign management can be a tricky thing. There are many things to consider before even starting CRM campaigns: Choose the perfect tools, setting up frameworks, etc. This continues when sending out omnichannel marketing campaigns through channels like email, push or inapp messages. I worked in different industries (e-commerce, retail, delivery, automobile) and with different automation tools (Mailchimp, Braze, Salesforce, Customer.io), so I can help in a lot of situations!

Campaign Execution

I am also an email marketing specialist. I am able to create emails from scratch and also modify their HTML & CSS. Further am able to create segmentations not only with the automation tools, but also via SQL queries. Setting up campaign flows is one of my favourite things to do when it comes to using CRM automation tools.

Campaign Analytics

Data-driven decisions are the key to grow. Every campaign should be analysed in detail in order to find patters and work on specific KPIs. I built up dashboards with different BI tools and can give my clients useful insights about the performance of their CRM campaigns.

Summary

Even though CRM and marketing automation is not linked directly to sustainability, I am convinced that is as important for business. Without getting the message out there and making customers stick to the brand, every business, including ethical companies, will struggle. This is where I can help! I am experienced CRM consultant that wants to dedicate his time towards making the world better.

Stay tuned. I will publish a new blog post once a month here about marketing automations, CRM strategy, sustainability, purpose-driven companies and how these topics interact with each other.
